Blow for Nottingham Forest as Bournemouth enter talks for Blackburn Rovers winger

Nottingham Forest have suffered another blow in their chase to sign Blackburn Rovers’ Connor Mahoney as Bournemouth have joined the race to sign him according to a report from Sky Sports.

It seemed for a while that Mahoney was set to join Forest. He is out of contract at Blackburn and the 20-year-old winger made it clear to his head coach Tony Mowbray that he would not be staying in Lancashire. And while the East Midlands club were close to wrapping up the deal, they hit a snag late on as they couldn’t agree a fee for the player with Blackburn. Forest must pay some compensation to Rovers because of the age of Mahoney.

This led to the deal being in doubt as Middlesbrough moved in to try and take advantage of how progress in the transfer had stopped but now another team has become interested in signing Mahoney. This report suggests that Bournemouth are in advanced talks with the youngster as they look to add another talented winger with lots of potential to their squad.

However even though this would give Mahoney the chance of playing in the Premier League, it may not be a move he wants to make. Bournemouth already have a lot of wingers and he would find it very tricky to break into the first team ahead of players such as Josh King and Jordan Ibe. He would have a better chance of regular football by staying in the Sky Bet Championship with Middlesbrough and Nottingham Forest, meaning they still have a chance of signing him despite the Premier League competition.
