Championship sides told to pay £1 million for Forest Green defender

Forest Green have told Championship sides that they must pay £1 million if they want to sign defender Ethan Pinnock, according to Sunday’s print edition of The Sun.

Pinnock was a key player and a very consistent performer for Forest Green last season as they won promotion to League Two for the first time in the club’s history.  The defender made 37 appearances in the league, scoring three goals along the way.  However, Forest Green could be set to lose their key man this summer, with Championship sides interested.

Barnsley have already had two bids turned down, with more expected before the transfer window comes to a close.  The Championship side could lose captain Marc Roberts this summer and so are looking to sign a defender as cover.

However, Forest Green have told a couple of Championship clubs that Pinnock will cost £1 million if he is to leave the club this summer.  This asking price may put Barnsley off, as the defender has not even kicked a ball in the Football League yet.

Forest Green signed Pinnock from Dulwich Hamlet last summer on a two-year deal.  The defender had made over 200 first-team appearances for the South London side after graduating from their youth academy.  He was also a winner of the club’s Player of the Year Award.

Being able to play at centre-back, left-back or in holding midfield, Pinnock is a versatile player and this is a useful quality in any league.  However, it remains to be seen whether a Championship side will be willing to pay as much as £1 million for Pinnock this summer.
