Huddersfield promotion hero offered more money by Championship duo

The Mirror understands that Derby County and Norwich City are prepared to offer Huddersfield Town defender Michael Hefele to join the club. The German centre back helped guide the Terriers into the Premier League, but with two years left on his current deal, the Championship duo are prepared to make their move early.

The 26-year-old has quickly became a real fans’ favourite at Huddersfield. He started 28 of their league matches last season in their promotion-winning campaign. The former Dynamo Dresden man is attracting the attentions of two clubs from the league below especially. Derby and Norwich want to join Huddersfield in the Premier League as soon as possible, and believe Hefele’s experience of getting over the line will serve them well.

Norwich are managed by a fellow German in Daniel Farke, who has recently taken the reins at Carrow Road. He has been busy moulding his squad ahead of the upcoming season, targeting the German leagues and German players so far. Derby have already added Curtis Davies to their defensive ranks, but Richard Keogh has been linked with a move away from Pride Park.

Nakhi Wells, another Huddersfield player, only has a year left on his deal and is attracting interest from Burnley. This is much more pressurised compared to Hefele, who still has two years left, but once it gets down to 18-months and no new deal is in the pipeline then players do start to look ahead. It remains to be seen if David Wagner will start Hefele in his side next season and he has been linked with many new centre back options as well.
