Swansea consider offering striker to Barnsley to secure defender signing

According to The Sun, Swansea City remain interested in Barnsley full back Andy Yiadom, but aren’t prepared to pay the asking price set by the Sky Bet Championship club. Therefore, the Swans could decide to offer striker Oliver McBurnie into the deal to try and force through the acquisition of Yiadom.

Yiadom, a Ghanaian international, has impressed since making the step up into the Championship after spending a few seasons with Barnet. This has led to big speculation over his future, especially after a positive showing at the African Cup of Nations earlier this year. Swansea remain keen, but not for the price Barnsley want.

The Premier League side, managed by Paul Clement, see the 25-year-old defender rated at £500,000. He made 33 appearances for the Tykes in his debut campaign with the club, earning many admirers in the process. However, Barnsley would only contemplate letting him go for £2million, meaning both clubs are clearly wide apart. Clement is pondering the prospect of offering both the £500,000, and also McBurnie into the deal. The McBurnie involvement could be a straight swap or maybe a season-long loan.

McBurnie, aged 21, has struggled with injuries recently but is now making his comeback. He’ll need game time to really step up his rehabilitation. Since making the move to the Liberty Stadium in 2015, the youngster has had a few loan spells away at Newport County and Bristol Rovers, after previously coming through the ranks at Bradford City. He did appear for Swansea in the Premier League home defeat to Tottenham Hotspur in April, which was his last appearance of any kind at professional level.
