Leeds United will have to pay £5million to re-sign former captain

Leeds United have been told that they must pay Norwich City £5million if they want to re-sign their former captain Jonny Howson, according to reports in the Mirror.

The midfielder moved to East Anglia in 2012, leaving his boyhood club Leeds behind.

And so far this summer, plenty of rumours have appeared linking Howson with a return to Elland Road, and Norwich City have at last released their valuation of him.

The Norwich midfield engine rejected a new contract offer at Carrow Road over a month ago, indicating that he does not see his future in Norfolk.

Premier League sides such as Burnley have shown an interest in Howson, but a return to his boyhood club is genuinely believed to be on the cards.

Norwich City are currently undergoing a redevelopment phase as they aim to return to the Premier League, and new sporting director Stuart Webber is prepared to sell several players in order to rebuild the club.

This does not mean that players will go on the cheap, and the fee given by them to Leeds United for Jonny Howson shows that.

The 29-year-old has been crucial for the Canaries in recent seasons, helping them to the Premier League in 2014/15, before sadly being relegated the following year.

He has made 188 appearances for the East Anglian club, scoring 24 goals.

If Leeds United are interested in re-signing Howson, he will be the second central midfielder that the club have signed so far this summer.

Poland international Mateusz Klich was the first, joining the club from FC Twente for an undisclosed fee.
