Leeds United “firmly in hunt” for Saiz – local journalist update adds detail

If things carry on as they are, football could have some very happy Leeds United fans come some point early next week, if transfer rumours are correct.

The Whites have already secured three signings with Hadi Sacko, Pontus Jansson and Mateusz Klich set to join the club for their 2017/18 Championship campaign. But that’s not where the transfer tombola stops for the West Yorkshire club, they still have targets in the pipeline.

Already there is news that Leeds are in for 16-goal, 14-assist Macedonian striker Ezgjan Alioski who currently plays in the Swiss Super League for FC Lugano. But it is news from Spain that Leeds fans are seemingly more enthused about, news regarding Samu Saiz, a forward who currently plays for Huesca.

Where do you stand on the current raft of Leeds United rumours? Bin or buy? Let us know below.

The Saiz situation has already been widely reported and according to Spanish source Sport Huesca earlier this week it was likened to somewhat of a drama, The Spanish publication said that the “Samu Saiz case looks set to be a soap opera,” and that soap opera continues to drag somewhat.

In Spain there is a begrudging love for what are referred to as telenovelas, a huge storyline spread out over many weeks with each lengthy episode like the turning page of a book. With that in mind, it’s the same with the Samu Saiz/Leeds United link. First the Huesca forward was ready to sign for Spanish La Liga side Eibar, but the page turned and Leeds interest was written into the storyline.

This continued to develop, with some sources reporting that Leeds were seen as favourites to capture the former Real Madrid youngster. Whilst Leeds United do remain the favourites in many people’s eyes to capture Saiz’s signature, Yahoo Sports journalist, and La Liga expert, Andrew Gaffney warns against any complacency from Leeds, saying there is still work to do.

It seems that updates are the order of the day with this transfer, with these updates coming with some regularity. After last night saying that Leeds stood a “good chance” of capturing Saiz with the player “keen” on joining the Whites, local journalist Phil Hay has posted this to his personal Twitter feed.

A reassuring tweet that Leeds are still “firmly in the hunt” for the Spaniard is added to by the positivity that the player remains “keen” and that the potential capture of the 12-goal forward is “not far away.” However, like Andrew Gaffney (above), Hay also warns against complacency that the deal is a fait accompli with the following tweet.

So, in this soap opera there are bound to be some more interesting twists and turns before the final scenes.

Do you reckon Leeds United will do well this season? What will their first two months bring them?
