Leeds United – local journalist weighs in on Saiz rumour

It is shaping up to be a summer of hope for Leeds United fans, replacing ones that have often flattered to deceive. Three signings made, two being converted from loan deals in Hadi Sacko and Pontus Jansson with Poland International Mateusz Klich also signing on a permanent deal.

With fans rejoicing at the fact that three signings have been made, that things are beginning to show signs of progress, and that calmness is being restored to Elland Road; there is further news regarding transfer signings in the pipeline.

Already there is news that Leeds are in for 16-goal, 14-assist Macedonian striker Ezgjan Alioski who currently plays in the Swiss Super League for FC Lugano. But it is news from Spain that Leeds fans are seemingly more enthused about, news regarding Samu Saiz, a forward who currently plays for Huesca.

Leeds have been installed as favourites for his signature, ahead of a number of La Liga sides including Eibar who were thought to have the upper hand in negotiations. According to Spanish source Sport Huesca, in news coming through late last night, Saiz is on the verge of joining Leeds United. They said that the “Samu Saiz case looks set to be a soap opera,” with his leaving CD Huesca “a fact” but saying it is his whereabouts after that is “another story.”

What points total will Leeds United get out of their opening two months and eleven games? Let us know below.

Saiz made 40 appearances for La Liga 2 side Huesca last season, scoring 12 times and adding eight assists. However, after failing to gain promotion from La Segunda with Huesca, Saiz was said to be looking for a different opportunity. Whilst Leeds United remain the favourites to give Saiz that ‘opportunity’, Yahoo Sports journalist, and La Liga expert, Andrew Gaffney warns against any complacency from Leeds, saying there is still work to do.

Now Yorkshire Evening Post reporter Phil Hay has weighed in on the story, his tweet adding another level of veneer to what is beginning to become a mini-transfer saga. Replying to a tweeted comment from Sky News’ Mark Thompson (below), Hay says that there’s a “good chance” that Leeds fans will be seeing the 12-goal forward at Elland Road next season.

Should this transfer, as many observers think, show signs of a firming up of interest then Leeds United fans can have another feather of hope to put in their summer hats.
