Burton Albion yet to receive bid for Derby County target

Nigel Clough has confirmed to the Burton Mail that the club is yet to receive a bid for Derby County target Jackson Irvine or any other first team player.

Irvine has been linked with a move to Derby County since the start of the new year. The Derby Telegraph reported in the January transfer window that the Rams had been linked with the striker.

The Australian International signed at the Pirelli for £330,000 ahead of last season from Ross County. Irvine scored 10 goals in 42 games for the Brewers last season in the Championship.

Since last season finished, Burton have signed Ross County and SPL’s top goalscorer Liam Boyce. Although this transfer is to strengthen Burton’s side, Boyce may have been drafted into the club not simply to link up with Irvine but as a potential replacement for the player.

Nigel Clough has quoted to the Burton Mail regarding the speculation around Irvine;

“No – there’s a lot of speculation and everything, but there have been no official approaches.” “There have been no official approaches for anybody.”

“There have been no official approaches for anybody.”

“We’ll see what happens in the next few weeks,”

“There’s no point us talking about a new contract when there’s speculation.

“If he still here on August 31, then we will sit down and talk about it then. There’s no point doing anything before then.”

It appears from Clough’s quotes that there is a possibility the striker may leave the Brewers for this season.

Irvine is currently away with Australia on International duty for the Confederations Cup. Once he returns to the UK for pre-season, there will be more clarity on the striker’s situation.
