Chesterfield director blasts Sheffield United for doing u-turn on loan deal

Chesterfield director Ashley Carson has told the Derbyshire Times that he is angry after Sheffield United went back on a deal to loan them David Brooks.

The 19-year-old midfielder came through the Sheffield United academy and is seen as the latest potential great to come through the Blades youth system. However while he has made a few first team appearances, it was believed he didn’t have much of a chance breaking back into the first eleven this time around following the team’s promotion to the Sky Bet Championship.

This was when a loan deal was arranged between Chesterfield and Sheffield United, with Brooks set to move to the Proact Stadium until at least Christmas. However when Brooks impressed with the England U20s during the Toulon Tournament, being a key player as his team went on to win the entire competition, United changed their mind and decided not to loan him out. Instead Brooks will get a chance to use pre-season to impress the management at Bramall Lane and see if he can break into the first team.

But this has angered director Ashley Carson who was very disappointed at how United went back on a deal at the final moment. He said: “I’m unhappy with how it’s panned out and I’m unhappy it’s at the 11th hour when our players are back in,”

“They’ve done a U-turn on what was agreed.”

“I have to accept it and accept their reasons but I am unhappy with it, it’s a real blow.
