Simon Grayson playing the waiting game as Sunderland takeover talks commence

Simon Grayson will only become Sunderland’s next manager, should takeover talks between owner Ellis Short, and two German Businessmen break down according to the Daily Mirror.

The Mirror suggests that Sunderland’s owner, Ellis Short values the club at £80m. Supposedly, the initial offer for the club from the two German businessmen doesn’t meet Short’s valuation of the club.

Sunderland’s frantic search for a manager since David Moyes’ departure has still come to no avail. An air of uncertainty now hangs over the Stadium of Light regarding the ownership of the club.

Although Sunderland’s ownership uncertainties are yet to be solved, Grayson’s future currently hangs in the balance. If Sunderland cannot find a new owner who will purchase the club, the Mirror has suggested that Short has said he will stay in charge.

Originally, it appeared that Derek McInnes would become The Black Cats new manager. Sunderland had managed to agree on a compensation fee with Aberdeen for the Scotsman. McInnes, however, decided to decline the deal offered to him and focus on the current task in hand at Aberdeen.

The Mirror suggests that if the German businessmen do take over, they have their eye Union Berlin’s manager Jens Keller. Keller boasts a 47.47% win percentage from his relatively short period in management. During the 99 games that he has managed at VfB Stuttgart, Schalke-04 and Union Berlin, he has won a total of 47 games.

Grayson is currently SkyBet‘s favourite for the job at odds of 4/9. It appears likely that he could be taking over upon Wearside. Although Grayson is currently the manager of Preston, that could change quite easily by the start of the season.
