French midfielder could end Villa Park misery

Unwanted Aston Villa midfielder Jordan Veretout is expected to end his dismal period with the club by returning to his homeland this summer according to the Birmingham Mail.

The 24-year-old former French Under-21 international midfielder spent the 2016/2017 campaign on loan at Saint-Etienne after being frozen out at Villa Park.

The Greens have an option to buy Veretout this summer with the player having impressed during his temporary stay at the Stade Geoffroy-Guichard however it is understood that the Ligue 1 outfit could face competition for the midfielder’s signature with divisional rivals Nantes also reportedly admirers of the Frenchman.

Veretout began his career with Nantes where he successfully broke through the club’s academy system into the first team. The player went on to make 146 first team appearances for The Canaries, scoring 15 goals for the club.

In summer 2015, Veretout signed a five-year deal with Aston Villa with the then Premier League outfit paying a transfer fee in the region of £7 million for the midfielder’s services. The player’s time at Villa Park has been forgettable with Veretout making 29 appearances for the club as they were relegated from the top flight in 2015/2016 while this season the midfielder was shipped out to Saint-Etienne on loan.

Veretout clearly has no future with Villa and a permanent move away from the club this summer is the best outcome for both parties.
