Could Wolves be looking to sign this Championship striker?

According to The Express and Star, Wolves may be looking to bring Preston forward Jordan Hugill to Molineux in the coming weeks.

Hugill’s career has seen a meteoric rise in the last five years. The six-foot forward has gone from playing non-league football to becoming a household Championship name in just half a decade. The striker initially began his career in 2008 at Seaham Red Star before playing for several other non-league sides. After a spell at Whitby Town in the 2011/12 season, he suffered an injury which kept him out for the season. Once regaining his fitness at Marske United, the Striker signed professionally for Port Vale before being sent on loan to Gateshead.

Once regaining his fitness at Marske United, the striker signed professionally for Port Vale before being sent out on loan to Gateshead.

Upon his return to League One football, Hugill scored four goals in 20 games for the Valiants. With the striker settling comfortably into life at Vale Park, Preston came in with a bid for the centre-forward.

The striker moved to Deepdale in 2014 for an undisclosed fee and has since made 66 appearances for The Lilywhites.

Hugill has been out on loan during his time at Deepdale on two occasions. Firstly, he was sent to Tranmere Rovers to regain fitness after injury. Two months later, he joined up with Hartlepool United. Hugill managed to keep Hartlepool in the Football League scoring an impressive four goals in eight games.

Hugill’s breakthrough at Deepdale came after a frustrating first season at Preston came in their 2015/16 season in the Championship. He managed to net three goals in 32 league matches. The young forward often uses his strength and hold up play to bring other players into the game. This has seen him link up well with the quick and agile Callum Robinson in a complimentary striking partnership. Last season saw the forward transform from provider to goalscorer. Hugill managed to score 12 goals in 44 Championship appearances, easily the most prolific season of his career.

The forwards success in front of goal has prompted interest from a range of Championship clubs. During January, Ipswich Town offered £1.5 million for the striker which Preston firmly rejected.

With the striker beginning to hit his prime, he would be a savvy addition to Wolves’ squad. If Wolves submit a reasonable offer for Hugill’s services; he may well be on his way to Molineux.
