Popular midfielder departs Lincoln for Scottish Premiership

Ladbrokes Premiership side Kilmarnock have today announced the signing of midfielder Alan Power on a two-year deal. The Irishman was offered an extension to remain with the Vanarama National League champions but has decided to take on a fresh challenge.

This brings to an end a six-year association with Lincoln City, during which the 29-year-old has served as captain, as well as becoming a firm fans’ favourite with the Sincil Bank faithful. The former Rushden & Diamonds man therefore will get the opportunity to put his wits against the likes of Celtic and Rangers over the upcoming season.

Power was known for his drive and determination at the heart of the Imps midfielder over the number of years service he has provided. Whilst manager Danny Cowley will be disappointed to see him depart, he’ll now switch his focus onto finding a replacement, as well as recruiting many other new faces to his title-winning squad. Speaking on the news of his move, Power says manager Lee McCulloch played a big role in deciding he’d join,

“It’s great to be here and to be given the opportunity to play in the Ladbrokes Premiership with Kilmarnock. I’ve heard a lot about the town and the club’s history and I can’t wait to get started. The manager spoke about his visions for this club and it was an easy decision to make.”

McCulloch revealed that he took notice of Lincoln’s amazing run to the FA Cup Quarter-Finals last season, which is where he became more aware of what Power could potentially bring to his side,

“I watched Lincoln’s fantastic run in the FA Cup, where they defeated some big sides before reaching the quarter-finals. Alan played in all of those games and was the club captain. He has an aggressive style of play, has a hunger to get better, and has great experience that he can pass on to the younger kids.”

Speaking to the Lincolnshire Echo, whilst Cowley knows it would’ve been a hard call for Power to make, he can understand the player wanting a change of scenery, and leaving Lincoln on a high may have just felt right for him,

“He’s been such a brilliant servant to the club and I just think he’d felt he’d run his race here.

“He achieved what he set out to achieve which was to get the club back into the Football League.

“Sometimes it’s nice to leave on a high and we totally respect that. We’re really appreciative of all that Alan has done for the club and we wish him nothing but the best for the future.”
