Five potential replacements for Britt Assombalonga if he leaves Nottingham Forest

Nottingham Forest escaped relegation from the Sky Bet Championship on the final day of the season, thanks to two goals from Britt Assombalonga.

The front man has suffered with injury a lot during his time at Forest, but whenever he plays, he seems to score.

Because of this, he has been linked with a move to a number of top end Sky Bet Championship clubs, including Garry Monk’s Middlesbrough.

But what would Nottingham Forest do without their top goal scorer?

We take a look at five potential replacements if Assombalonga does leave:

1) Daryl Murphy – Newcastle United:

Daryl Murphy is a proven second tier goal scorer, and even though he did not quite make the cut with Newcastle United this season, he has done before. He was Ipswich Town’s top goal scorer three years running, which ultimately earned him a move to the North East giants. His first team opportunities were limited at Newcastle, playing just 14 games for the Magpies. He did score five goals in those games however, proving that he has the credentials to succeed at that level. Following Newcastle’s promotion to the Premier League, it is likely that Murphy will be let go, as Benitez looks to build a squad capable of competing in the top flight. Murphy is not in his plans, and could be the perfect fit at Nottingham Forest.
