Leeds United Klich into gear with second transfer signing

He posted a couple of snaps on his Instagram showing him in Krakow’s John Paul II Airport and it didn’t take Leeds United fans long to put two and two together with the help of a flight schedule to find out that Pole Mateusz Klich was heading for Leeds.

There had been rumours that the Whites were in for the 10-cap Poland international thanks to a report in Dutch publication Tubantia. The Dutch publication said that Leeds United “which already has an interest [for a] while” in the Polish midfielder had already bid once for him and “that bid was rejected” by current club Twente Enschede.

However, it is a fast-moving river is the transfer one, and it didn’t take long for the flow to change and for Leeds to catch back up with a player who could very well add a spark to the Leeds United midfield, a spark that was largely absent last season.

Local journalist Phil Hay tweeted on Thursday that Klich’s flight had landed and the Poland international midfielder was at Elland Road undergoing the necessary medical ahead of signing.

This was all completed and the 27-year-old now becomes Leeds United’s second signing of the summer, after the loan-to-permanent capture of Sporting Lisbon winger Hadi Sacko earlier this month.

What Klich will bring to Leeds United

A dual threat – he’s a scorer and a provider: Matteusz Klich’s 2016/17 Eredivise campaign saw the Polish international turn out 29 times for Twente, scoring six times and providing four assists. In his Eredivisie career he has featured in 72 games, scored 12 goals and providing 15 assists.

His goals last season came at the rate of one every 434 minutes, which would potentially mark him out to be in the nine goals per season bracket. If you added his six goals scored and four assists made then the 27-year-old was involved in a goal every 260 minutes.

A passing threat – both volume and accuracy: Over a typical 90 minute period, Klich shows both volume and accuracy in his passing. He averaged 62 passes per 90 minutes at an accuracy of 82.3% – completing 51 passes per 90 minute period. Of these pass attempts, 38 (61.3%) are forward of the position he receives the ball – this showing a go-forward attitude.

Signing announcement

The 10-cap Poland international is understandably happy at the move to Leeds United, telling the club website: “I am very happy to have signed for such a huge club and I’m looking forward to playing in the famous white shirt. I’m excited to come to England and test myself in the Championship and I can’t wait to get going.”
