Fleetwood talisman joins Rotherham

Fleetwood Town striker David Ball has today joined Rotherham United, as reported on Fleetwood Today.

The 27-year-old striker was out of contract at Fleetwood this Summer and the Cod Army withdrew a contract offer made to Ball earlier this week.

Ball joined Fleetwood back in July 2012 following their promotion from non-league to League Two. While it was a rocky start for Ball, he found some form after the sacking of Micky Mellon and the appointment of Graham Alexander. In his time at Highbury, Ball has made over 200 appearances, bagging 49 goals in the process. The striker was even nominated for the FIFA Puskas Award back in November 2015 thanks to his incredible long range chip at home to Preston North End.

Following reported interest from numerous clubs this Summer, it is Rotherham United who have managed to pounce and acquire the striker’s signature ahead of the fast approaching 2017/18 season. The Millers are back in League One following their relegation from the Championship last season and will be hopeful they can bounce back at the first time of asking. Goals from the likes of Ball will surely be key if this is to happen.

Ironically for Ball, his first game for the South Yorkshire club could be back at Fleetwood Town. Following the release of the EFL fixtures yesterday, the two sides will face each other at Highbury on the opening day of the League One season (Saturday 5th August), a game which will most likely be of greater significance for Rotherham’s new signing than it will be for the other 21 players on the pitch.
