Leeds United should Saiz transfer opportunity – Victor Orta sees potential

One thing that Leeds United were short of last season, Chris Wood apart, was a sense of fecklessness in front of goal.

Chris Wood’s 27 Sky Bet Championship goals were far and away above any total achieved by any other Leeds United player. No other Whites player managed to even trouble double figures – such was their lack of firepower.

That’s the over-riding concern of fans that the club use the transfer market to begin to address this lack of goals in the side. Late last night came the rumour that the Whites were in talks with 16 goal Macedonian striker Ezgjan Alioski.

Now Spanish media outlet Estadio Deportivo (ED) is reporting that the Whites are said to be renewing their interest in former Real Madrid youth striker, and current Huesca forward, Samu Saiz.

ED say that after falling in the promotion places and an aim for a La Liga place, Saiz “is thinking of jumping to another team.” They report that there are two sides in La Liga looking at him, with Eibar having the lead over Real Betis “having bid the most for the Huesca player.

However, Leeds are also seen as being a team interested in acquiring the former Real Madrid youngster, ED saying that new man and Director of Football Victor Orta “has thought of Saiz for a team that must fight for promotion.”

Saiz made 40 appearances for La Liga 2 side Huesca last season, scoring 12 times and adding eight assists.

The 26-year-old Madrid-born secondary striker started off his footballing career at Real Madrid, progressing from their youth set up to the reserves of Real Madrid Castilla. His other clubs have included time on loan at Sevilla, whilst also turning out for the likes of the B sides for Getafe, Almeria and Atletico Madrid.
