Middlesbrough: Five fixtures to look out for this season

The fixtures for the 2017/18 EFL Championship have just been released. With the opening day just over a month away; Middlesbrough will be looking for a great start to their season after an instant return to the Championship. Here are five key fixtures to put into your diary.

Wolves vs Middlesbrough (Opening Day)

Boro’s first fixture back in the Championship after relegation from the Premier League will be against Wolves. They’ll be making the trip down to the Midlands hoping for the three points to give their season a kick start as they look for a return to the Premier League at the first time of asking.

Middlesbrough vs Sunderland (04/11/17)

The first half of the big North East derby comes in November where Boro host Sunderland at the Stadium of Light. The Teesiders did the double over The Black Cats last season and they’ll be needing to repeat that as they’re looking for promotion. But Sunderland are also hoping to go up. So Sunderland will be doing everything they can to stop their rivals from going up. The reverse fixture for this Derby will be on the 24/02/18.

Middlesbrough vs Leeds United (18/11/17)

Everyone loves a good Yorkshire derby and this one is set to be one the most important of the season. With Leeds missing out on the Play-Offs by just a few points and Boro being relegated to the Championship; both sides are going to want the points to get the upper hand when it comes to the promotion race. Also, you can’t forget that Leeds United hate Boro manager with a passion when he left them to join Boro after Leeds didn’t make the Play-Offs. The reverse fixture for this derby will be on the 03/03/18.

Middlesbrough vs Bolton Wanderers (Boxing Day)

Boxing day will see Middlesbrough host Lancashire side, Bolton Wanderers. This game will be massive at both ends of the table with Bolton looking avoid the drop back to League One ad Boro hoping to go up. This two last faced each other two seasons ago when a late Jordan Rhodes goal won it for Boro after they came from behind to win 2-1.

Ipswich vs Middlesbrough (The Final Day)

Ipswich are tipped to have a boring mid-table finish so the chances are this game will mean nothing to the Suffolk club. But Boro are looking for promotion so this game could mean everything to them as long as their fate hasn’t already been decided either way. This is definitely a fixture you won’t want to miss.
