Leeds United appoint new scout – currently at Under-21 Euros

It’s been all change at Elland Road since Thomas Christiansen was announced as the new man in the Leeds United hotseat.

Christiansen has brought with him his trusted number 2 in Julio Banuelos, and the club are filling out the backroom staff with what is definitely algo con un sabor Español. Already installed at the club was new Director of Football Victor Orta, and soon he was followed by a raft of Spaniards.

Marcos Abad was named as the new goalkeeping coach, with Ivan Torres also named in the Monday presser as fitness coach. Now the Yorkshire Evening Post have said that the Whites will also be employing Gaby Ruiz who has been “listed as the club’s head of European recruitment.”

One thing that was largely defunct under previous regimes at Elland Road was the sense of an organised and efficient scouting and player recruitment set-up – but that all seems to be changing now. Orta was, of course, schooled in transfer skills whilst at Sevilla and under the much-vaunted auspices of the legendary Monchi.

Monchi’s skill and expertise saw him find/unearth players of value that were brought to the club on free transfers or low fees, later being sold on for quite extraordinary transfer prices.

Ruiz is currently said to be in Poland at the moment scouting the European Under-21 Championships, where he might unearth some diamonds in the rough that Leeds United can then go on and polish.
