Forest, Why Nottingham Forest could be in contention for a Play-Off push

Why Nottingham Forest could be in contention for a Play-Off push

After a disappointing year in the Championship for Nottingham Forest, Mark Warburton’s side will now be looking back up the table.

Forest narrowly avoided relegation on the final day of the season with a 3-0 victory over Ipswich Town. Despite running out comfortable winners against Ipswich, they only managed to stay in the division by two goals. Mark Warburton will not be thinking about a relegation scrap this season and with a fantastic squad at his disposal, there is no reason why they cannot aim for the top six.

Forests campaign during the 2016/17 season was hit by financial concern, injuries and a managerial merry-go-round. ex-Chairman Fawaz Al-Hasawi’s tenure in charge of the club brought concern off the field and results took a serious hit on the field. During December, the club had around ten senior players injured at the same time which was largely problematic for the side. Given the combination of off-field trouble with misfortune on the pitch, it’s not surprising Forest struggled so badly.

The next two pages will give an insight into Forest’s fortunes for the upcoming season. Jake Verity will focus firstly upon the new ownership and managerial situation at the CIty Ground. Then, there will be an insight into Forest’s transfers and squad for the upcoming season.
