Birmingham City are interested in signing RC Lens’ John Bostock according to reports in France picked up by the Birmingham Mail.
Many years ago, it seemed like the 25-year-old midfielder was set to be the next big thing. He made his debut for Crystal Palace aged just 15 and would end up being signed by Tottenham Hotspur. However his career soon unravelled as he never made an appearance for the Spurs and loan spells with Hull City and Swindon Town didn’t work out, though they did see glimpses of his talent.
Bostock would leave England after being released by Tottenham in 2013 and has done very well in rebuilding his career at clubs such as Royal Antwerp and OH Leuven. He is now coming off the back of a stunning season with RC Lens when he came very close to sending them back to Ligue 1, though he did claim their Player of the Year award for his efforts.
And this could lead Bostock back to England as Birmingham are now said to be interested in signing him. They are now managed by Harry Redknapp, someone who is very familiar with the midfielder following their time together at Tottenham. While it didn’t work out for Bostock the first time under him, he may be tempted by a chance to show that he was worth all the hype back when he was tipped as the next big thing while under his management. However he hasn’t shown a keenness to return to the UK before, rebuffing interest from QPR last year.
