23-year-old full-back Jordan Amavi has confirmed he wants to leave Aston Villa this transfer window, according to TalkSport.

Amavi joined the Championship side back in the 2015/16 season from OGC Nice. He has since made 48 appearances under Steve Bruce, Roberto Di Matteo, Remi Garde and Tim Sherwood. He has yet to make his début goal, but has assisted four times.

He has said he wants to return back to a top-flight club after Villa were relegated from the Premier League last season and faced the Championship, where they finished 13th.

Amavi told L’Equipe that he has been put on the transfer list this window. He was in competition with Welshman, Neil Taylor who signed for Villa in January 2017.

My View: Premier League or France return?

Amavi is a defender who has good pace and control with the ball, but a weakness is pressure. I personally think he struggles with being challenged by the opposition. With the performance he has shown this season, I think a move this summer would be beneficial for him and the club. If the Birmingham side want to be in the Premier League in the 2018/19 season, then I personally don’t think Amavi’s attitude towards the Championship will motivate the club to reach the top six.

If he wants to make a return to France, he needs to make improvements to be a confident defender. He’s not going to make the starting lineup for a top-flight club if he isn’t confident to maintain possession with the ball. I think if he was to stay in England and move to a Premier League side, I think Southampton would be my recommendation.
