Championship club Leeds United narrowly missed out on a place in the play-offs at the end of the season and it’s been a strange Summer at Elland Road since. One of the biggest shocks came when manager Garry Monk left his position as manager of the West Yorkshire club and then ultimately went on to become the manager of newly-relegated Middlesbrough.
It’s no surprise therefore that Leeds fan Daryl fancies a crunch game with Monk and his new side on the first day of the season, a view which is surely shared by many Leeds fans.

What’s often found is that many fans hope for a game on home turf last game of the season. This could be for one last send off before the long Summer, for the chance to roar their side on in that last push of an important promotion or relegation battle or could be for numerous other reasons.
It’s a hope which is shared by QPR fan Steve who doesn’t mind who his side plays on the final day as long as it’s at Loftus Road.

Fellow QPR fan Joakim possesses a very different view and is part of the group of fans which hopes for a big day out on the final day of the season. In terms of distance, they don’t come much bigger than a trip up North to Leeds. He also wants Aston Villa at home on the opening day.
Qpr, Aston Villa @ home and Leeds away

Nottingham Forest endured a torrid season in 2016/17 but after a Summer of positive moves, including the recent signing of striker Jason Cummings, fans are back and in what can be described as a buoyant mood. This once great club has underperformed in recent seasons but are now showing the right signs and there is more positivity among their loyal fans.
This buoyant mood and positivity is epitomised by Forest fan Will who fancies a crack at one of the recently relegated Premier League teams in Sunderland on the opening day of the Championship season.

Down into League One and a club who like Leeds narrowly missed out on promotion last season, Bradford. Fan Phil represents another group of fans who don’t just think in terms of the football. It’s fair to say that Phil, along with both many other Bradford and general League One fans, fancies an August day out in Blackpool on the opening day of the season.

Lancashire side Blackburn Rovers are new to League One and like Bradford fan Phil, Blackburn fan Chris fancies a trip to the seaside just down the road from Blackpool in Fleetwood on the opening day and unusually a home game against MK Dons on the final day of the season.

Fellow Blackburn fan Rikki also fans a trip in unfamiliar surroundings first up but one of quite a differing magnitude.

Rotherham United and Portsmouth are both also new to League One and Millers fan Andy fancies a pop at sleeping giants Pompey on the first day of the Football League calendar.
Rotherham. Portsmouth at home

Portsmouth were a Premier League side just a few years ago and there’ll be no doubt a few sets of fans looking forward to their home and away clashes with the Hampshire-based side.
Oxford fan Lucy echoes this idea and like Rotherham fan Andy, she wants to see her beloved Yellows play Pompey on the opening day of the season.
Oxford United Portsmouth first at home and Blackpool last at home

Finally to League Two where Newport County fan Ian has high hopes for his team’s first game of the season. You can dream Ian!

London club Wycombe Wanderers continue to enjoy steady progression under Gareth Ainsworth with very little money or resources at his disposal.
Wycombe fan Alex fancies a long trip in the sun up to newly-relegated Chesterfield on the first day of the season and a feisty Southern clash against what will undoubtedly be play-off rivals in either Colchester or Luton.

Regardless of who fans are hoping for when, something which is shared is that come Wednesday thousands of fans will be glued to the internet to find out their club’s schedule for yet another Football League season.
