Nottingham Forest, QPR, Preston North End and Bristol City are interested in signing Barnsley’s Josh Scowen according to a report from Page 63 of the June 18th print edition of The Sun on Sunday.
The 24-year-old midfielder was a key player for the Tykes this season, playing an integral role as the club shocked everyone by challenging for a spot in the Sky Bet Championship play-offs. Their bid would end up tailing off in the second half of the season but they were still very happy by finishing 14th in the league when they were being tipped to be relegated back to Sky Bet League One at the start of the season.
However even though they wanted to keep Scowen after his impressive year, they won’t be able to as he has decided to leave the club at the end of his contract this summer. And with him coming off the back of one of his best years to date, it is no surprise to see a whole host of teams chasing his signature.
The likes of Nottingham Forest, Preston and Bristol City are all looking into signing the former Colchester United man but it appears that it is QPR who are leading the race to sign him. After a mediocre season where they were stuck in mid-table, the club will be looking to make a push so they can try and qualify for the play-offs. And they believe that signing an accomplished midfielder like Scowen would certainly help them in their goals.
