Sheffield Wednesday are set to make a bid to sign RB Leipzig’s Oliver Burke on loan according to a report from Page 63 of the June 18th print edition of The Sun on Sunday.
One of the issues that Wednesday have had in recent years is a lack of quality wingers in the squad. They have signed plenty of players to try and sort this with the likes of Will Buckley and Callum McManaman being signed but not being able to make much impact in their spells. So with Wednesday wanting to finally get promoted to the Premier League after coming close in the last two years, they know a top quality winger is needed and they are looking to Germany to sign one.
The player they have been looking at is Burke, who only signed for RB Leipzig last season from Nottingham Forest. His signing was seen as a massive coup as they managed to beat several Premier League clubs to his signing though as it turned out, he wouldn’t become a key player for the team as originally envisioned. He would only make five starts for the team and he couldn’t even make much of a claim that they’d be better with him in the team as Leipzig shocked everyone by finishing 2nd in the Bundesliga and qualifying for the Champions League.
With Leipzig set to sign more players to prepare themselves for their European adventure, Burke, who is an international for Scotland, could find himself even further down the pecking order. This gives the chance for Wednesday to snap him up on loan for next season and for Burke to return to the league he proved himself in.
