Preston North End to make shock approach for club legend if Simon Grayson leaves

Preston North End are set to make an approach to appoint David Moyes as their new head coach should they lose Simon Grayson to Sunderland according to a report from the Daily Mail.

The Lilywhites are coming off the back of an impressive season where the Lilywhites once again challenged for a spot in the Sky Bet Championship play-offs though they would miss out and finish in 11th place. But this was still seen as a great achievement for head coach Simon Grayson considering that their budget was a lot smaller than some of their rivals and he would eventually be voted as the 13th best manager in the EFL due to his efforts.

However this sort of success gets noticed and now Sunderland are interested in appointing him as their new manager. They recently missed out on getting Aberdeen’s Derek McInnes after he turned down the approach and they are now looking to other targets. With there not being many managers more experienced in the Championship than Grayson, they are now looking at him. And if Preston do end up losing him to the Mackems, they have a hell of a coup lined up to replace him.

Preston would make an approach for Moyes, ironically the man who created the vacancy at Sunderland when he resigned following their relegation last season. He is well loved at Deepdale from his spell in the 1990s when in his very first job, he was able to guide them from almost being relegated from Division 2 to fighting to promotion to the Premier League in Division 1. He would leave for what would be an iconic reign at Everton in 2002 but he would still be welcomed back to the club despite his recent poor reigns at clubs like Manchester United and Real Sociedad.
