Sheffield United backed to re-sign former fans’ favourite from Premier League

Sheffield United are priced at 6/4 with Sky Bet to sign Everton centre back Phil Jagielka this summer. His future at Goodison Park is in doubt despite the fact he still has a year remaining on his deal. He could be free to leave in the eyes of Toffees boss Ronald Koeman.

With Everton seemingly keen on adding a new centre back, Burnley’s Michael Keane according to Sky Sports, it places some question marks over where Jagielka will be playing his football. Now aged 34, and soon turning 35, he may wish to end his career at Bramall Lane with Sheffield United.

The Manchester-born defender has only ever played for either the Blades or Everton in his career, and of course the England national team. Speaking last month to Sky Sports, ‘Jags’ said that he plans on returning in pre-season to prove to Koeman he deserves to stay, but hinted he’d like to remain on Merseyside,

“It is up to me to come back in pre-season and prove to the manager that I am not too bad and hopefully I can stick around.”

Since making the £4million move to the Premier League club, the defender has played over 300 times. He played a similar amount during his many years at Bramall Lane, but could he be about to extend that in the Sky Bet Championship next season? He won promotion out of that league all the way back in 2006 under the management of Neil Warnock, with whom Jagielka was a firm favourite with, as well as the supporters. An emotional return isn’t completely ruled out, even though it seems unlikely at this stage. Whilst he is 6/4 to join Sheff Utd, he is 5/4 to remain at Everton.
