Birmingham City are said to be keen on Ajax left-back Mitchell Dijks, according to Dutch media reports.

The 24-year old, who joined Norwich City on a five-month loan deal in January, has caught the attention of Birmingham and he could return to England on a permanent deal.

The Canaries agreed a £4 million fee back in January, but the club only decided to take Dijks on a loan move.

Dijks is said to have admirers across Europe in Spain, Germany and Italy, and the Dutch giants are prepared to cash in on the defender.

Dijks has also had loan spells at Heerenveen and Willem II in recent year. He was a regular starter for Ajax in the 2015/16 season, but fell out of contention in the first-half of last season, forcing his loan move away from the club.

Birmingham boss Harry Redknapp currently has Jonathan Grounds and Cheick Keita to choose from at left-back, and is keen to bolster his options at the back. The club is now favourite to sign Chelsea legend John Terry.

Dijks has made 13 appearances for the Netherlands at U21 level and below. He was called up to the first-team squad in March 2016 for friendlies against France and England, but didn’t feature in the playing squad.

The Eredivisie winner would bring some much-needed depth to the Birmingham City defensive line ahead of the new Championship campaign. Birmingham are hoping to improve massively on last season’s 19th placed finish which saw them narrowly avoid relegation to League One.
