Leeds United and Aston Villa to do battle for Manchester United winger

Championship pair Leeds United and Aston Villa are reportedly set to do battle with Celtic for the signature of Manchester United winger Adnan Januzaj, according to the Birmingham Mail.

The Belgian international, who has made over 50 appearances for the Red Devils since making his début in 2013, is keen to reignite his career after disappointing loan spells at Borussia Dortmund and Sunderland in the past two seasons.

The 22-year old was told by Jose Mouriniho in April that he wasn’t in United’s future plans, with a move away from Old Trafford likely this summer.

Aston Villa manager Steve Bruce is understood to be a keen admirer of the young attacker, claiming in 2014 with Hull manager “the kid is set to be a superstar”.

It’s understood that Januzaj could be open to dropping down to the Championship to get his career back on track, with some much-needed regular game time.

He was a regular starter while on loan in the north-east last season, managing 28 appearances, but only scoring one goal in a nightmare season for the Black Cats.

However, Villa will have to do battle with Championship rival Leeds United, who are also said to be keen on the youngster. New boss Thomas Christiansen will be keen to bolster his attacking ranks ahead of the 2017/18 season, with reports that star-striker Chris Wood could be on his way to West Brom after substantial interest from the Premier League.

However, Januzaj isn’t just raising interest from the Championship. Celtic are another side who may be tempted by the Belgian. They are set to miss out on Manchester City youngster Patrick Roberts and see Januzaj as a potential alternative.

Spanish-side Real Sociedad are also said to be keen on signing the player.
