Cardiff City hopeful of keeping defender against all odds

According to Wales Online, Cardiff City are growing increasingly optimistic that centre back Bruno Ecuele Manga will sign a new contract with the club. Neil Warnock has been stating for a while now that he expected the Gabon international to leave.

In other news, winger Kadeem Harris has signed a new contract extension to remain with the Bluebirds. These terms will see the 24-year-old stay with the club for a further two seasons. This would be a real double boost for Warnock and Cardiff, especially in the case of Manga.

Manga is out of contract following the culmination of the Sky Bet Championship season. Galatasaray were understood to be among those interested in snapping up the 28-year-old. However it looks as though he may now be staying on, despite having to take a significant pay cut to do so. This is why Warnock felt he’d leave, but he was a regular in the team towards the end of last season and may now be convinced Cardiff is the place to be.

Ken Choo, the Cardiff City chief executive, says that the club and player are ‘in discussions’ over a possible new deal, also stated that Manga has told them that ‘he would love to remain here’. That is in an ideal world however and perhaps finances will be the ultimate final factor in any contract being signed. The club recently rejected an offer for Sean Morrison, whilst Lee Peltier has signed a new deal too. Defensively, Warnock wants them to improve from last season, and retaining the services of Manga would certainly help them do so.
