Sunderland look to Sheffield United manager after missing out on Derek McInnes

Sunderland are now looking towards making an approach for Sheffield United head coach Chris Wilder after they missed out on Derek McInnes according to a report from HITC Sport.

The Black Cats have been looking for a new manager after David Moyes left following their relegation from the Premier League and they thought they had their man earlier this week. They had been in advanced talks with Derek McInnes, who currently manages Aberdeen, and the deal seemed to be close to being completed until he turned down the offer and elected to stay in Scotland. Now Sunderland must look elsewhere to find their new boss.

And the man they are currently considering making a move for is Chris Wilder who is coming off the back of a great season with Sheffield United. After six years in exile from the Sky Bet Championship, Wilder was the man who finally got the Blades promoted and he did it in his first year in charge. Not only that, but his team would become the champions of Sky Bet League One and hit the mythical 100 points mark. He would be voted as the 4th best manager in the EFL because of this.

And now Sunderland are hoping to lure him to Teesside. It will be tough considering that Wilder is a Sheffield United fan from birth having been born in nearby Stocksbridge but the chance of managing a team that has a better chance of getting promoted to the Premier League may be too much to resist for the former Northampton Town boss.
