Championship Playoff Final Player Ratings

Last Saturday saw the culmination of an entire season for both Derby County and Queens Park Rangers. A tense affair saw QPR snatch a 1-0 victory with a late, late Bobby Zamora strike. The striker pounced on a mistake by Derby captain Richard Keogh in the 90th minute to send Rangers into the Premier League. QPR also managed to achieve this after going down to 10 men early in the second half, midfielder Gary O’Neil being sent off for a cynical foul on Derby’s Johnny Russell when the Scot was through on goal.

From this point on, Derby dominated the match but could simply not find the breakthrough. Richard Dunne and Robert Green used all their experience of the big occasion and frustrated Derby. Clear cut chances were at a minimum for both teams although law of averages suggested that the Rams would eventually make the breakthrough. As we know however, football is not as simple as this. You need to take these chances and QPR punished Derby in the cruellest way possible.
