Oxford United closing in on deal for Jags defender

Sky Bet League One club Oxford United are closing in on the signing of Partick Thistle centre-back Liam Lindsay according to the Daily Record.

The 21-year-old is a product of The Jags’ academy system and the player has gone on to become an important member of the first team squad at Firhill.

It has been reported that Oxford United boss Michael Appleton is a huge admirer of the youngster and the Sky Bet League One club are believed to be closing in on a deal to sign the player. United are thought to have had a £350,000 transfer offer accepted by The Jags and the defender is set to discuss personal terms with his potential new employers. Any transfer fee is likely to rise depending on the player’s performances during his time at The Kassam Stadium while Partick Thistle could be entitled to a sell-on fee.

Lindsay made his debut for The Jags as a 17-year-old and the player has gone on to make 72 appearances for the club, scoring eight goals. The defender’s good performances resulted in the player being named in the Scottish Premiership Team of the Year this season.

The youngster has also spent time on loan at Alloa Athletic and Airdrieonians to aid his development.
