Championship club rival West Ham for Nigerian forward by tabling £7.5million bid

Sky Bet Championship side Birmingham City have tabled a bid for KAS Eupen forward Henry Onyekuru (Daily Mail). Premier League side West Ham United are also keen on the player, but the second tier club have tabled a bid of £7.5million for the Nigerian.

Onyekuru was initially linked with Arsenal much earlier this summer but it soon emerged no deal was likely. West Ham have since expressed their interest and Onyekuru is believed to favour a move to the Hammers. However with news that ambitious Birmingham have submitted the largest bid could see him playing his football under Harry Redknapp next season.

Slaven Bilic’s side have been told that the player won’t be sold for less than £7.87million. This would also aid the chances of him receiving a work permit to play his football overseas as well. As mentioned, no club has bid more than Birmingham at this moment in time but the Championship club are certainly wary of breaking any Financial Fair Play regulations.

The player himself is currently spending time with his family but was hoping to soon fly over to discuss a move to West Ham. News of a new club entering the market, and a surprising one in Birmingham, does certainly put a spanner in the works. He netted 20 goals last season in the Belgian top flight, leading to many scouts delivering reports of high praise. Redknapp would love to add the player to his squad, and is already hopeful of luring John Terry to St Andrews following his release from Chelsea too.
