Steve Bruce keen to reunite with Burnley midfielder at Aston Villa

Aston Villa are considering a move for Burnley winger George Boyd, according to reports in the Birmingham Mail.

The club have a move for Boyd rejected in January, but the 31-year old has recently rejected a new deal at Turf Moor and will be available to leave on a free transfer.

Steve Bruce is understood to be keen on reuniting with his former player, who he brought in from Peterborough while manager at Hull City.

Boyd is said to be keen on landing a 3-year deal at his next club, although it’s unknown if Villa are willing to give out such a big contract to the ageing midfielder.

Several other Championship clubs are understood to be interested in the Scottish international, with Derby County another side who are considering a move,

Boyd has been a regular for Burnley since joining from Hull City in 2014, making 115 appearances for the Lancashire club. With over 600 career appearances under his belt, he’d be a fine addition in terms of experience to the Aston Villa squad.

Boyd was a member of the squad that led Hull City to the 2014 FA Cup Final. He was influential throughout the run, starting in the semi-final against Sheffield United, in which the Tigers went on to win 5-3, and he came on in extra-time in the final against Arsenal, where City ultimately lost 3-2 after being 2-0 up.

Midfield is an area that Steve Bruce is keen on strengthening this transfer window. They recently had a bid for Stoke City man Glenn Whelan rejected. A fee of £500,000 was offered for the 33-year old.
