Media report claims John Terry has made shock Championship move

Corriere dello Sport claims that former Chelsea defender and captain John Terry has signed for Sky Bet Championship side Birmingham City. There has been no official confirmation from anyone concerned at this stage.

Blues boss Harry Redknapp did tell talkSPORT earlier today that he has offered a contract to the ex-England skipper. He finds himself without a club following a 22-year association with the current Premier League champions.

Birmingham’s arch rivals Aston Villa have also keen in the running to sign the veteran centre back. Premier League clubs like AFC Bournemouth have been linked with the 36-year-old too. Still, Redknapp believes he has plenty to bring to the table at this stage of his career,

“We’ve made him a good offer and we have done the best we can. It’s up to John now, but we would love him at Birmingham.

“He could play for anybody still. He has got a couple of good years in him. I had a chat with him and said to him to come in – he’s doing his coaching badges – have a year or two and who knows what he wants to do in the future?”

Terry has won Premier League, Champions League and many domestic cup honours during his lengthy stint with Chelsea. The tough haul of the Sky Bet Championship will certainly be a new challenge for him, but it’d be one which he would feel confident of overcoming with ease. Given the league has something of a physical mentality, the commanding defender would relish some of the battles he is likely to face.
