Blackburn Rovers complete signing of Cardiff City icon

Blackburn Rovers have complete the signing of Peter Whittingham from Cardiff City on a free transfer as confirmed by the club website.

The Lancashire club were relegated from the Sky Bet Championship this season and are keen to make sure that their drop to this division, which is the first time a Premier League winning team has been in the third tier, is a short one. For that to happen though head coach Tony Mowbray needs to rebuild the squad especially as he gave the team a glimmer of hope with some of their second half of the season form being decent enough to pull them to the edge of survival.

And Mowbray has now signed his first player since his appointment as manager and it is one that could excite the fans. They have managed to snap up Whittingham, a favourite at Cardiff City, with the veteran midfielder penning a two-year contract with the club. His focus is now set to be on becoming an integral part of their midfield and making sure Blackburn get promoted at the first attempt next season.

Whittingham brings with him a huge reputation where he became one of the Cardiff fanbase’s favourite players over his ten years at the club. He was noted for his set piece ability while playing in South Wales and was seen as one of the club’s best players when they constantly challenged for promotion from the Championship before eventually securing promotion in 2013, just one year after missing out on the League Cup after losing to Liverpool in the final on penalties.
