Brentford midfielder pens new deal

Nico Yennaris has committed himself to a future at Brentford after signing a new four year deal under boss Dean Smith.

Prior to last campaign, the ex-Arsenal midfielder struggled with consistency as his early career was hampered by a string of unfortunate injuries. Having joined the Gunner’s academy at the age of seven, Yennaris only went on to make four senior appearances for the club and failed to impress on short loan spells at Notts County and Bournemouth. In 2014, he made the move to Brentford where a tough spell of injuries marked a difficult period for the Englishman. However, after time Yennaris was able to stay clear of injury and began to establish himself in the Brentford matchday squad where he is now a regular.

The midfielder has had a highly impressive season in West London, earning praise from Head Coach, Dean Smith, who showed his delight after the 24-year-old signed the deal on Monday. Talking to the club website, Smith said “We are really pleased that Nico has agreed the contract extension. He has become an integral part of the team, as his appearances last season have shown. He is continuing to improve in all aspects of his game and is becoming an accomplished goal scoring midfielder in the Championship.”

Yennaris

Brentford fans will hope that Yennaris will replicate positive performances he made throughout the 2016/17 campaign which helped make him a stand out performer. This year the Englishman proved to many that he has the talent to become a quality Championship midfielder as he contributed to his sides respectable 10th place finish in a number of different ways. As well as showcasing his already competent ability to carry out defensive duties, Yennaris has also shown great attacking endeavor. In total, the midfielder bagged 6 goals last season, the most spectacular being a 25 yard wonder goal against Birmingham City, which sealed a well deserved 3-1 victory.
