A Chinese consortium are understood to have made an approach to buy Sky Bet Championship club Newcastle United according to Sky Sports Sources.

The Magpies have secured their return to the Premier League at the first attempt after winning the Sky Bet Championship title and under popular boss Rafa Benitez it is hoped that the club are set to enjoy a bright future.

It has been reported that a number of parties are interested in buying the club including a Chinese consortium. Current Newcastle United owner Mike Ashley has been under pressure to sell the club from fans for a number of years with many unhappy at how the club has been run although the 52-year-old retail entrepreneur promised that he would not sell the club unless they win silverware or secure a return to European competition.

It is believed that Ashley has tried to sell Newcastle United on two occasions in the past however the Burnham born billionaire is seemingly now content with his current involvement with the club and is no longer actively looking to relinquish his ownership.

Newcastle United have not yet commented upon the speculation surrounding the possible fresh investment at St James’ Park and it is thought that owner Ashley could give any fresh offers of investment some serious consideration.
