With Sky Bet, there has been significant movement in the next Leeds United manager betting. As part of the seemingly daily change, we’re providing a little update as to where the money is being placed. This could provide a strong indication over who might be incoming at Elland Road.
As was the case yesterday, the current favourite to become the next Leeds manager is Victor Sanchez. The former Real Betis, Olympiacos and Deportivo manager was backed into favouritism over the weekend and remains in this role. Most of the usual suspects are behind him, but there is one new name that no Leeds United fan will have heard of!
Alan Pardew is certainly someone well known to all English football supporters. He is still looking for work following his sacking at Crystal Palace last season. He was the favourite for the Leeds job a few days ago, backed into a very short price at one stage. He was drifted out to 5/2, but only because of the emergence of Sanchez.
Espanyol manager Quique Sanchez Flores has interestingly been backed into 9/2. This is significant as his price has pretty reduced by about 50% over the past day or so. It would seem unlikely that he would swap a job in La Liga for the English Championship but he is certainly someone highly rated by the Leeds board. He was supposedly a target for the Leeds job in the past. He has experience of English football managing Watford so the language barrier isn’t a problem.
Jaap Stam of Reading is at 6/1 and he is the only seemingly concrete name in the running for this job. He is on the managerial shortlist but Reading do seem confident of keeping him on board. Speaking after their play-off final defeat to Huddersfield Town, and even before that, he pledged his future to the club.
Pep Clotet was assistant to Garry Monk and he is another to have served as big favourite for this job, but is now 8/1. He supposedly fell out with Monk last season, meaning he isn’t expected to follow him to Middlesbrough any time soon. All speculation linking him with the top job at Elland Road was quietened recently though.
Finally, the one new name to enter the betting is that of Juan Ramon Lopez Muniz. Who I hear you ask? Well, he has appeared at 11/1 in the betting recently. He is the current manager of Levante, who will be playing in La Liga next season after winning the Segunda Division title. The 48-year-old mostly played for Rayo Vallecano and Sporting Gijon in his playing days. His managerial career has been ever changing, spending a few spells at Malaga amongst many other clubs. His first full season managing Levante saw him guide them to the title, so his stock has risen. Is he going to Leeds? We’ll see.
