Celtic & Scotland striker linked with both Newcastle United and West Brom

Celtic striker Leigh Griffiths is attracting interest from Premier League duo Newcastle United and West Bromwich Albion, according to the Mirror. The 26-year-old netted twice on Saturday as Scotland drew 2-2 with arch rivals England at Hampden Park in a World Cup qualification clash.

Griffiths netted 18 times for Celtic over the past season as Brendan Rodgers’ side celebrated a domestic treble. He often found himself as second fiddle behind former Fulham man Moussa Dembele, and may now be tempted to test himself south of the border next season.

Perhaps a bid of around £6million would give the Scottish champions a big decision to make. He has been with the club since January 2014 following a move from Hibernian. He has been a big hit ever since, netting 85 times for the Hoops during that stint. He has tasted English football before whilst at Wolverhampton Wanderers but struggled to make an impact at Molineux after had two loan spells away in that period.

Rafa Benitez and Tony Pulis could be lining up bids for the Scotland international, who appears to be first choice under Gordon Strachan at present. Both Newcastle and West Brom are keen on adding a natural goalscorer to their squads for the forthcoming season. Dwight Gayle netted 23 times last season for the Magpies, closely followed by Matt Ritchie on 16. As for the Baggies, they had Salomon Rondon as top scorer with eight, so perhaps their quest for another frontman is more desperate. It remains to be seen if either will make a bid, but there is clearly some interest at this stage.
