Odds have dramatically shortened on Chelsea legend John Terry joining Aston Villa for the 2017/18 season.

The Birmingham Mail has reported that Terry and Villa boss Steve Bruce were photographed playing golf together last week in Portugal, with SkyBet now installing the Birmingham club as second favourites to sign the five time Premier League winner.

Terry left Stamford Bridge at the end of Chelsea’s title winning season after 22 years at the club. Bournemouth have been the overwhelming favourites for his signature but the bookies now have Villa at 9/2 as his next destination.

The former England captain is one of the countries most decorated players; to add to his five titles, Terry has also led Chelsea to 10 domestic trophies as well as the Champions League and the Europa League in close to 500 appearances for the club.

Terry is more than likely to remain in the Premier League but a drop down to the Championship would not be completely out of the question given his age and lack of play time in recent years.

Terry is currently in South Korea following the England U20s World Cup triumph yesterday over Venezuela after flying out to congratulate the youngsters, so any deal would seem unlikely in the coming days while he is out the country.

Steve Bruce has admitted that discussions over Terry have taken place with chief executive Keith Wyness adding fuel to the fire of speculation.

Terry has also been linked with moves to the MLS and Portugal, however the player seems keen to see out the rest of his career on home soil in England.
