Championship manager rules out move for vacant Leeds United job

Jaap Stam is a manager is huge demand with the Reading boss’ name being linked with several clubs so far this summer after guiding the Royals to the Championship Play-Off Final, but his agent has ruled out the possibility of him joining Leeds United.

The West Yorkshire side have been without a manager since Garry Monk left the club last month, with a long list of names being linked with the vacant position ever since, including that of Stam.

However, his agent has claimed that he is local to Reading’s cause in the 2017/18 season and will not be heading to Elland Road.

Agent Henk Timmer told Voetbal International, that Stam will remain loyal to Reading FC who gave him his big chance in England unless a big club from the Premier League come knocking.

Timmer said, “There is a lot of interest in Jaap, from English clubs and elsewhere in Europe.

“But he is loyal to Reading, the club has given him the chance in English football. If a big club in the Premier League knocks it might be a different story, the club is so realistic also. But as it stands now Jaap wants to finish his job at Reading. ”

Stam had also been linked with a move to Dutch giants and recent Europa League runners-up Ajax. However that now seems unlikely following his agents comments.

Alan Pardew is currently the big favourite to take on the position, with current interim manager Pep Clotet and former Middlesbrough boss Aitor Karanka also being linked.
