Burton Albion are set to activate the release clause in Ross County’s Liam Boyce according to a report from the Daily Mirror via the Burton Mail.
The Brewers shocked everyone by staying in the Sky Bet Championship this year though it did end up going to the last few days of the season. But this is no time for Burton to rest on their laurels and they need to strengthen their squad if they want to surprise everyone yet again by managing to stave off relegation once again. And they are looking to Scotland to sign a player they think will be able to help them in their aims.
The man they have been looking at is Boyce, a striker for Ross County who was in incredible form for them this season. Even though he doesn’t play for one of the Scottish Premier League’s giants like Celtic, he was able to be their top scorer after netting 23 times. This beat the tallies from the likes of Scott Sinclair, Moussa Dembele and Stuart Armstrong, the trio that came 2nd, 3rd and 4th behind him.
But it appears that Burton have signed him and that Boyce will be bringing his goalscoring exploits to the Championship. This report suggests that they have activated a £500K release clause in Boyce’s contract which would make him Burton’s record signing, beating the value they spent on Jackson Irvine last season. And considering how well he did at the Pirelli Stadium, fans may have a reason to be excited for this potential signing.
