Barnsley, Wigan Athletic and MK Dons in pursuit of Manchester City starlet

Barnsley, Wigan Athletic and MK Dons are in pursuit of Manchester City’s Ashley Smith-Brown according to a report from the Daily Mail.

The 21-year-old defender, who can not only play at both left and right-back but also in defensive midfield, is highly rated by Manchester City and some believe he might be able to break into their first team at some point. However while he did impress while he was on loan with Dutch side NAC Breda this season, the club believe that his development would be best served by once again heading out of the Etihad Stadium and getting more first team experience.

And with Manchester City wanting Smith-Brown to play in a more physical league than the Eerste Divisie, it seems like he will be staying in Great Britain this time around, leading to a lot of interest from teams in the EFL. Sky Bet Championship side Barnsley as well Sky Bet League One teams MK Dons and Wigan Athletic are all looking to sign him on loan ready for the forthcoming season. They are facing competition from Scotland as well with Hearts also looking to sign him.

For Smith-Brown, this will be a big decision as the right choice now will help him get better as a player and give him a good claim for being given a chance in the Manchester City first team when he comes back. The England U20 international knows that their head coach Pep Guardiola is known for bringing through the youth and that could apply to him with a great loan spell away from the club.
