It has been no secret that Newcastle United are interested in signing Napoli goalkeeper Pepe Reina this summer.

But this proposed transfer has been somewhat of a rollercoaster, which has gone from a deal practically being done, to Reina saying he is staying, even to his wife storming out of the Italian club’s end of season awards evening.

But the Magpies have today (June 10) received a boost in their pursuit of the Spanish goalkeeper.

According to Squawka, the agent of Valencia goalkeeper Diego Alves, his client has been linked with a move to Napoli, and thinks that he would be a perfect fit at the Italian club.

As quoted by Squawka, Diego Alves’ agent said: “We are seeking top level options for his future, because he needs new motivation and adrenaline,”

“He’s a very high level goalkeeper and deserves a top club, no offence to Valencia, and Napoli fit the bill. If Reina were to leave, then in terms of character, level and experience, Diego Alves would be perfectly suited to the role.”

The Brazilian shot stopper has enjoyed a successful few seasons with Valencia, but is looking to secure himself Champions League football and a move to Napoli would do exactly that.

If he is to complete a deal with the Italian giants, this could pave the way for Pepe Reina to sign for Newcastle United this summer.

Reports are suggesting that Reina has fallen out with Napoli president due to rumours linking him with a move away from the club.
