Speculation is rife as to where Sunderland goalkeeper Jordan Pickford will be playing his football next season. After The Black Cats were relegated into the Sky Bet Championship, many are linking the England Under-21 international with an immediate return to the Premier League.
Therefore, we have looked to Sky Bet to see what the odds are on him playing for certain clubs next season. We will run a piece on the top five most likely destinations, based on the odds. He is currently away at the Under-21 European Championships, but could easily return playing for a different club altogether.
We’ll start from bottom to top in terms of odds at the time of writing, and we’ll begin with…….
Chelsea (8/1)
The Premier League champions of course have the ultra dependable Thibaut Courtois between the sticks, but it would be fair to say he virtually has no competition. Last season, he did have Asmir Begovic providing him with a battle of some sorts, but it was only ever a one-sided affair. However, Antonio Conte has allowed Begovic to leave to join AFC Bournemouth, where he’ll enjoy more regular starting opportunities. This therefore presents a gap in the squad that needs filling. Pickford won’t simply be happy playing second fiddle, but he is young enough and good enough to provide Courtois and Conte something to think about. The odds reflect he is unlikely to make this move, but there is some logic behind it.
