Bristol City & Wolves to rival Ipswich for Welsh international midfielder

The East Anglian Daily Times understands that Ipswich Town face competition from two Sky Bet Championship rivals to the signing of midfielder Emyr Huws. The Cardiff City man is also attracting interest from both Bristol City and Wolverhampton Wanderers.

It is believed that Huws is free to leave the Cardiff City Stadium this summer as Neil Warnock is looking to free up space within his squad for his own signings. The Welsh international made a big impression at Portman Road last season, appearing 13 times in his temporary stint with the club.

Tractor Boys boss Mick McCarthy was sufficiently pleased with what he saw and made adding the 23-year-old to his squad permanently one of his top transfer priorities prior to next season. He scored three goals in an Ipswich shirt, including a brace in the 3-1 home victory over champions Newcastle United. Highlights of that game can be seen in the video below.

McCarthy would’ve possibly expected there to be competition from elsewhere for Huws, but he may still be confident of signing him. Ipswich would certainly be able to offer him regular football, plus he got a flavour of the club for a period last season. Nevertheless, Lee Johnson appears to be a fan too, and is clearly looking to add to his squad too. Nuno Espirito Santo is the new man in at Wolves and he too is possibly a fan of the Welshman. Jorge Mendes is supposedly overseeing the recruitment at Molineux, although mainly foreign players have been linked with the club.
