Jaap Stam

Agent of Jaap Stam speaks out on those Ajax rumours

Speaking to Dutch publication Voetbal Primeur, the agent of Jaap Stam insists that he won’t be named as the next manager of Ajax. Speculation had grown in recent days that Stam was set to return to the Europa League finalists, but he is all set to remain at Reading.

The Eredivisie giants are on the lookout for a new manager after Peter Bosz departed to take on the job at Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund. The name of Stam was thrown about in certain quarters, with reports suggesting the club were looking to bring him back.

Stam is no stranger to Ajax having worked at Jong Ajax, which is effectively the reserve team, which competes in the Jupiler League. Coincidentally, the current Jong Ajax boss Marcel Keizer is now believed to be the front runner for the first team vacancy at the Amsterdam Arena.

Henk van Ginkel, Stam’s agent, categorically confirms that his client is about to depart the Madejski Stadium,

“Jaap Stam will definitely not be a trainer at Ajax.

“Jaap is in his mind in England, and he is not at all approached.”

Stam himself recently informed FOX Sports that he is happy with the Berkshire club and is not looking to return to Holland after just one season away. This will serve as excellent news to all Reading fans. In his debut season in football management with the Royals, he guided the club to the Sky Bet Championship final, where they came off second best to surprise package Huddersfield Town.
