Brighton and Birmingham City in chase to sign highly rated French defender

Brighton and Hove Albion and Birmingham City are among the teams chasing the signature of Le Havre’s Ferland Mendy according to a report from Sky Sports.

The 21-year-old defender is seen as one of the best young talents in the country at the moment and while Le Havre would like to keep one of their star assets, they fear that they may be forced to sell him as he only has one year left on his contract. This has led to a massive chase to sign him and several sides from England are in the race to get his signature.

In England four teams are looking to sign Mendy with two of those teams playing in the Sky Bet Championship this season. Both Birmingham and Brighton like the player and are looking to sign him this summer, though they will be expected to pay out. Even though Le Havre could end up losing him on a free next season, they are trying to make sure they get as much as possible for him and are demanding £7m. This would be a serious amount for both sides, though Brighton’s promotion and Premier League money would make the move easier for them.

But there are several other teams in the chase to sign Mendy and it is set to be a heated race to sign him. Established Premier League sides Crystal Palace and West Bromwich Albion are looking to sign him while French teams Lyon, Marseille and Monaco are also feeling confident that they’ll be able to sign him.
